The Research Paper (Survey Paper: Comparing Ontologies in a Different Viewpoints)

This is my first survey paper title and works of this paper is almost done.  This paper would clearly describe the ontologies and their differences in a very passionate manner.

And the basic method of comparing the ontologies would be described here. Once the paper is ready and published the link will be updated in my blog.

The Ontology Differs from Database Schema or Class Model

An ontology differs from a database schema or object-oriented class model in at least three important ways: objective, scope and content.  First, the objective of an ontology is to represent a conceptualization that is neutral in terms of technology, representation, and application. In other words, an  ontology is not the same as, say, a UML software design, although it could be used to guide software designs. Second, the scope of an ontology is all applications in the domain, not just one. And finally, an ontology contains knowledge specifications where the meaning of the concepts represented is explicitly specified and constrained and where the rules to infer further knowledge are explicitly defined.

Enterprise Ontology

I have started work on my research seriously from last Friday onward. Prof Hans gave me couple of good books to be read and one out of two Dr. Prasad Jayaweera also told to do so.

The book titled "Enterprise Ontology" is an amazing book to read about the real ontology scenario. As a nutshell of Ontology I have come to a conclusion that if you want to design a good ontology in any domain you need to have the following basic designs.

  1. Process Model / Flow Charts
  2. Action Model
  3. State Model
  4. Construction Model
will grow more  . . .

Prof Hans . . .

I met my supervisor for my short stay research activities Prof. Hans Weigand last week. We had a very informal first meeting soon after arrival of Tilburg University, Netherlands.

He is such a wonderful and much capable person here in Tilburg University holding very many positions in Tilburg University and some other Institutions too. The fist meeting went on perfectly with him discussing about Sri Lanka, Dr. Prasad Jayaweera (supervisor in Sri Lanka) and some other useful stuffs which would help me during my staying here at Tilburg.

On the next couple of days I was very busy with applying and registering for the temporary stay permit, some medical tests and appointment with bank to open an account. Every thing went on in a very pleasant manner indeed (thanks god).

My very first official and formal meeting with Prof. Hans Weigand on 28th of February at his office. He just drove me to the department and gave me a key of the room 1009 for group studies (as I called office).

We discussed a lot about the research that I'm going to do here (Ontology Process Model).  Prof Hans gave me couple of books to read and understand the topic well. I accepted that offer and the assignment eagerly.

After that, Prof told me to get ready for the VMBO 2014 in Berlin, Germany (http://www.csw.inf.fu-berlin.de/vmbo2014/index.htm). Once again I was impressed with the task in Berlin.

It will grow  . . .

Hello Netherlands ! ! !

I landed Netherlands on 24th of February, 2014 exactly 6.10. As soon got outside the airbus and felt the shivering of the hell cool in Amsterdam/Netherlands. Verily impressed with the setup of the airport in capital of Netherlands. Very quickly got in to the passport checking counter and got the permission to go out. I was really hurry to find the baggage counter to get my luggage. Thank god !!! Got the luggage on time. Very interesting thing in the Amps airport, I don't need to search for the train. It is just under the airport. So I went down !!!!! It was like a different city. Everything is pre-planned, very systematized. I was wondering for couple of minutes of these different setup such right opposite of our small island SL. I could see number of displays showing the departures and arrivals of the trains. I was searching and found my train starting from Amps at 8.17 to Tilburg, where I intended to live and study. It was really impressed me,you know why; at 08.17 the train was in front of me.

Got in to the train. Had enjoyed the lovely dusk scenes outside the train. The train itself connected to the a very big network it seems. Each and every station was passed in a exact time which was announced and displayed in the display LED boards. I was really impressed of this.

Finally I reached my destination without a single second delay, which is Tilburg central. Mr. Jagath was expecting me to pick me and drop in my apartment since I'm really new to this city.

Reached my department by 10.30.

Hope to write more about the city and my works during the cause . . .
